Why Jamberry?

First - congratulations to Lisa G. of Missouri for winning the Jamberry Easter Basket giveaway!

Many friends have asked me why are you doing this Jamberry?  I thought you were taking it easy!"

As I re-read my post where I announced my resignation from Gold Canyon, I was reminded of just how crazy busy I was last year, and how dangerously close I can come to that again!

When I discovered Jamberry in November of 2011, I considered adding it as a second business.  I even requested a sample from a consultant in California.  I told a few friends about it, but never did much more research into it.  In January one of those friends sent me this:

Autism Awareness

I don't know a lot about autism.  My entire exposure is limited to a boy that I knew growing up who was very strange, and a little girl that I used to babysit who had seizures and I was taught how to roll her on her side to keep her from "swallowing her tongue".  I've seen lots of articles about autism, many friends have posted, some acquaintances on Facebook have autistic children - but I didn't really know what it was!  Here is a good description from The Autism Society of America:
Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and affects a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others. Autism is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is a "spectrum disorder" that affects individuals differently and to varying degrees. There is no known single cause of autism, but increased awareness and funding can help families today.

$$$$ help Riley Lamphear raise some $$$$

A little girl named Riley is so very sick. Her best hope is a trip to Boston for specialized care. Please read on and help as you are able!

Riley has suffered terribly with a disease called PEPD, a pain disorder that is a daily struggle. It is extremely rare. Riley has an opportunity to see a doctor in Boston, Massachussetts. They live in Charlotte, North Carolina. This trip is important, but the funds are not there yet.

I am asking all of us to give thanks for our healthy families through GIVING to help her. How many of us ate lunch at a restaurant today with our families? How many of us give in and buy a toy in line at the grocery store? We are so blessed. I am asking all of us to step up, for someone who would never ask for help.

So - how can you help?

On the road to healing...

We've just left for a wonderful weekend of restoration and healing at Camp Sol.

If you know of a family in the DFW-area that has lost a child and still has kids at home - please pass this to them!  Camp Sol has been an integral part of our family's healing process.  It is so rewarding to go now and help other families while remembering our son, Ian.

Crafting with a toddler

If you're like me, that title brings simultaneous emotions of excitement and dread!  I'm always (ALWAYS) happy to create.  And I really enjoy helping my children express their own creativity.  And as a mom, I always tell them their project turned out great!  Even when they used too much glue. :)  I learned a long time ago not to be too critical, not to try to show them too much, not to make too many suggestions.  Once the supplies come out, it's game on!  They just want to go for it!

So, how do you do a project that you are both really proud of?  Here are a few suggestions - and I'd love to hear yours too!

The End of Frustration

When I was in the hospital with pneumonia in December, a dear friend visited me and gave me a book called "The Secret Place of Strength".  She also gave me a journal and encouraged me to write.  To restate what the devotion said, to write my questions, to write my observations, my prayers, whatever!  I've been going through it as my daily (almost every day!) devotional.

Something wonderful has happened: I look forward to devotion time.  For a long time I've felt like I "should" do devotions.  I've tried.  I've got a ton of books.  I've got a ton of Bibles!  I've got a ton of good intentions!  But the time always felt pained, not quite wasted, but not fulfilling either.  (Is anyone else identifying with me?  I can't be the only "good Christian girl" who didn't live for devotional time!)  They have always been viewed as a chore; something else on the to do list that never got done.  I've never really been able to see them as "me time" - something that I do for my own pleasure and encouragement.  I've always felt they were part of the grading stick that I was failing.

Since I've been using this book and journal, I enjoy spending time with God.  I have always enjoyed worship, going to church, etc. - but devotion time has been less than thrilling.  Recently, I have been able to hear Him calling to me when the house is still "come sit with me".

I don't blog these times - they are mine!  However, as I was reflecting today, I felt I really needed to share a revelation with you!

DFW Jamberry Nails Review & Giveaway!

~~~CLOSED~~~
Congratulations Charissa Jackson!
I got my Jamberry Nails samples on a Wednesday at noon.  I waited patiently to try them.  Until my daughter got home from school!  LOL
Jamberry has vinyl nail shields that are applied with the use of heat (from a hair dryer) and pressure (from your fingers or an orange stick).  They form a tight bond to the nail that lasts and lasts.
I did her nails first, then my own.
This non-profit Foundation puts forward all its resources into education and active involvement of people like you and I in the conservation of the Rainforest. It does it with workshops, trips to the Peruvian Amazon, connecting educational institutions with each other, and supporting indiginous people.
Do we really care if the Rainforest vanishes from the face of the Earth? You bet. And you'd better be proactive NOW. If all of the Rainforest goes away, we will be experiencing one of those cataclizms like in a horrific movie.
