Does it matter who you are friends with?

In my opinion, we have to guard our marriage from outside influence much the way we guard our children:  We are careful about who they interact with, never leave them unattended and always affirm and care for them.  We don't do this to control them, but to protect them.

We need to be vigilent to protect our marriages as well, and it starts by being careful who you hang out with/talk with.  If you surround yourself with positive people who are committed to their marriages, you will all learn from each other.  If you surround yourself with people who see your marriage as an inconvience to their plans (like a man who would love for you to ditch your husband and date him) or who don't value marriage in general, then you will have a hard time.

In Proverbs 4: 23 we are told to "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life."  I don't think that it is a stretch to apply this to our marriages!

In Proverbs 1:1 "Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers."

In Proverbs 27:9 "Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of one's friend springs from his earnest counsel."

Seek out Godly friends to support you in your quest to make your marriage all that God desires!
